Picture Your Thoughts

Pick a subject. Automatically turn anything on the web into icons. • Drag them around to "connect the dots". • Gather comments. • Vote on the best idea. • No website expresses your thought? Use the online word processor or just upload a document to become a website. • This is concept mapping.

Why Should I Care About This?
Great things happen when people are really heard. Great ideas, fewer meetings, easier life. The IdeaTree philosophy. The main goal: to be simple.

Finding Jewels of Wisdom

IdeaTree is for "critical thinking", considering different perspectives, finding the latent genius that often lies within a group (or within your own head). You're always in sync because you're sharing the same visual map of knowledge in real time.

Works on iPad

Being web-based, no installation is necessary, and unlike most mind mapping apps it works on iPad and exports to iPhone (no Java or Flash required). If you login from your iPhone your Instaviz app will automatically be started, allowing you to add to maps by drawing with gestures.

What Is IdeaTree?

A helpful little startup founded in 2002 by one guy out of a desire to help quiet people and great ideas to be heard and to grease the wheels of interdisciplinary communication. It's still small. The focus has been on software rather than marketing. Better to serve a few people well than to be huge.

Register here for ready-made use. Site licenses are also available, or embed it into your own website using the REST-inspired Web Services API.

Tip #1: Team Building

A roomful of people, all waiting to be heard. Personal agendas. Only one can speak at a time, so you channel surf ideas. Nothing is considered in depth. Strong personalities dominate. Good ideas get lost.

Try This:

  • Don't speak your ideas, write them.
  • Read others' first, then append your own.
  • Draw the relationships.

Result: 40% more ideas generated (based on studies of over 1,000 brainstorming groups).

Tip #2: Flip Charts

Do you use flip charts? IdeaTree can replace them with Web 2.0 mind maps that don't get thrown away and are available 24/7. Continue to collaborate after the meeting or class ends.
